My career to date has been heavily influenced by my interest in and passion for people, other cultures and exploring the world. It has taken me all over the UK and the world, with long periods of time in Japan and India.
It has also given me the opportunity to work in a variety of working environments – small family-owned business, not for profit, NGO, and large corporate.
After taking a year out in the Far East and Australia, and two years teaching business English in Japan I began a long and successful career in the UK travel industry, including senior operational management roles with Virgin Atlantic and P&O Cruises.
I loved the travel industry and thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful opportunities it gave me to explore the world in style. However, by 2005 I realised I needed to honour my core values and do something more fulfilling and meaningful for me. I therefore became a volunteer with VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas) and spent two years as a Communications Advisor for a large, local charity in Orissa, one of the poorest states in India.
On my return to the UK, I was offered the opportunity to combine my experience in business and international volunteering to set up and run the international operations department of a new government-funded volunteering programme. In 2 years we established 13 projects in 6 countries and grew to a 9 strong team.
This role to led to an opportunity in Jaipur, as an Organisational Development Consultant for an international volunteering company which allowed me to develop my coaching and mentoring skills in a small business environment.
While in India, I undertook my own Happiness Audit. I mapped out the kind of life I wanted for myself in the future, got clear on my priorities and then set about putting the plan into action. Coaching has always been the central strength of my management style and has contributed to my success in building and managing effective and productive teams. It was therefore a next natural step in my career.
I am passionate about my own and other people’s professional and personal happiness and fulfilment, and about coaching as an effective tool to bring about practical and lasting change. My approach is down-to-earth, practical and warm.
